14 Recipes for a Sweet Jewish New Year

14 Recipes for a Sweet Jewish New Year

We love the Jewish High Holidays because that means coming around the table with our families to reflect on the past year, recommit to ourselves, celebrate traditions, and, of course, eat delicious food! We compiled a list of some of our favorite Jewish holiday-inspired recipes that will round out your Rosh Hashanah (or Yom Kippur) dinner menu.

Kale Harvest Salad with Maple Tahini Dijon Dressing

Nothing screams fall like our kale harvest salad. Full of the best seasonal ingredients, and a creamy nutty sweet and savory maple tahini dijon dressing, this salad is something we reach for not only during the Jewish Holidays, but also throughout the fall and winter seasons. Make it your own and add any fall-inspired produce your heart desires!

The Best Hummus Ever

There's nothing like a fresh batch of homemade hummus that the whole family goes crazy for. Our recipe features tips and tricks we've learned from Michael Solomonov from his cookbooks, Zahav and Zahav Home to create hummus just as good as James Beard Award-winning restaurants! If you want to make a fall-inspired rendition of hummus, consider our Pumpkin Hummus instead.

Baba Ganoush

If you want another appetizer recipe to get the party started, we highly recommend Amy's Baba Ganoush from The Tahini Table. It's smoky, slightly nutty, and bright from the addition of lemon juice of parsley.

Spiced Carrot Tahini Soup

This carrot tahini soup is incredibly flavorful with the perfect balance of spice and heat. We're obsessed with the extra dimension the tahini sauce brings to the soup and the texture, crunch, and Mediterranean vibe the challah croutons (and crispy chickpeas!) add.

Tahini Butternut Squash Soup

Have you considered passing on making chicken soup with matzo balls this Rosh Hashanah? If not, maybe this butternut squash soup will convince you otherwise! This (vegan) soup captures the essence of the fall season with every spoonful. Packed with Vitamins A & C, potassium, and fiber, this squash soup will keep your satisfaction level up.

Roasted Carrots with Maple Tahini Dressing

A sweet, nutty, and tangy roasted carrot side dish is exactly the type of thing you never knew you needed in your life. A touch of rich sweetness from maple syrup, creamy nuttiness from tahini, lots of tangy acidity from lemon juice, and bit of saltiness from crumbled feta create a compelling and divine glaze for carrots and other root vegetables. Heck, drizzle it on your favorite protein for a perfect finish!

Moroccan Cauliflower with Tahini Honey

If you haven’t checked out Jamie Vespa’s (otherwise known as Dishing Out Health) recipes, we definitely urge you to! The Tahini Honey sauce is sweet and bright with a squeeze of lemon and balances the spicy heat from roasted cauliflower tossed in harissa.

Roasted Cauliflower with Harissa Tahini

Roasted Cauliflower with Harissa Tahini Sauce is the kind of veggie side dish that rounds out any meal with its creamy heat! This vibrant, herb-filled sauce gets its kick from harissa – a warm, spicy, North African condiment filled with a blend of chiles, garlic, oil, and acid. If you want to forego making a sauce from scratch with all of the other work to do, consider serving it with our premade Harissa Tahini dressing and dipping sauce instead.

Honey Tahini Glazed Potatoes

Seeking a fresh take for your potato dishes for the High Holidays? Look no further. With so many different ways to prepare, potatoes allow you to create your own adventure. Elevate your potato dish with a honey and tahini glaze for a flavorful and innovative side dish that pairs perfectly with any savory protein.

Farro Tabbouleh with Whipped Tahini

This recipe comes from Sheela Prakash’s latest cookbook, Salad Seasons. A bed of fluffy whipped tahini makes the perfect base to balance out bites of lemony farro and fresh veggies. Try it out as a starter course for your holiday dinner.

Roasted Butternut Squash with Orange Tahini

A bright and citrusy Orange Tahini sauce and a sprinkling of za’atar will transform roasted butternut squash into a side dish that’s out of this world! A fun and delicious way to spice up your holiday spread.

Dairy Free Chocolate Tahini Honey Cake

What could be better than a sweet new year? A chocolatey one! Chocolate Tahini adds rich chocolate flavor without making the cake overly sweet. Shining alongside honey’s earthy, floral notes. It’s a must for the Jewish New Year!

Dairy-Free Apple Tahini Torte

Whether you celebrate the Jewish holidays or are looking for an excuse to get your baking gear out, this easy Dairy-Free Apple Tahini Torte is going to set the tone for baking this fall. The dessert’s texture is perfectly chewy with an ideal sweet to salty ratio.

Tahini Apple Crumble

Easier to make than pie! Tahini Apple Crumble still gives you that scrumptious combination of fruit and flaky without the hassle. Feeling adventurous? Top it off with a scoop (or two) of ice cream!

If you choose to make any of these recipes for your Rosh Hashanah spread, you'll need plenty of Soom Tahini on hand. Order a few jars from Walmart or Amazon, or pick them up at a store near you!
