About Soom Products

Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds. It is commonly used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, and is a versatile ingredient for savory and sweet dishes.

No, our sesame seeds are roasted before they are pressed. Soom Tahini is just sesame, no added salt or oil.

Silan is a syrup made from dates. Soom Silan is an all-natural date syrup made from 100% steamed and pressed dates. There are no additional sugars, preservatives, or colors added to our silan.

Storing and Quality

Depending on the preferred consistency, Soom tahini can be stored in either the pantry or the fridge. For a smoother and more pourable texture, keep Soom tahini in a cool, dry pantry. If you prefer a nut butter-like consistency, keep Soom tahini in the fridge. We recommend storing Soom Vanilla Tahini in the fridge since it has a naturally thinner consistency than other flavors. Silan Date Syrup is best stored in a cool, dry pantry.

*Never place a wet or dirty spoon in the jar as it promotes bacterial growth. Ick!

Soom tahini products have a 2-year expiration date from the day it was pressed. We recommend using within 12 months of the purchase date.

Soom Silan has an 18-month expiration date from the day the silan was pressed, but we recommend using the product up within the first 12 months

A bottle may have an expiration date of 18/1/23, which means it’s good until January 18th, 2023.

If the tahini separates and is difficult to re-mix, we recommend removing all contents (oil and solids) from the jar and mixing in a blender. If you have an immersion blender, you can also leave the tahini in the jar and blend right inside!

If the chocolate or dark chocolate tahini separates and becomes hard to stir, make it a warm bath! (No bubbles necessary.) Simply place warm-to-hot water in a bowl and place the jar of chocolate tahini with the lid screwed tightly into the warm bath. (Make sure that no water enters the jar.) Let sit for 3 to 5 minutes. The tahini will be much easier to stir.

Soom tends to be thinner than a lot of other tahini on the market. The ratio of the sesame oil to the sesame “meat” gives it a creamy, pourable consistency. Also, depending on temperature, the tahini may feel a bit thinner or thicker.

The black spots are the tips of the little sesame seeds. Ethiopian White Humera sesame seeds have black tips that are still visible once they're ground. Because Soom products are 100% natural and crops vary each season, some jars have more specs than others. The spots tend to settle at the bottom, just give it a good stir before enjoying. It is 100% safe to eat.

During the colder weather, fats and sugars may crystallize forming white crystals or specks. These specs occur because we do not add emulsifiers to our products. It is 100% safe to eat and will still be delicious!
