Soom is thrilled to work with Michele’s Granola to support Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) in Philly. Soom and our co-founders have supported this incredible organization through various means for several years and we’re proud to further contribute to C-CAP’s mission with this opportunity.
When Soom first started back in 2013, our most committed customers and supporters were chefs and culinary professionals. Without the restaurant and hospitality industry and the hard-working people who are a part of it, Soom wouldn’t be where we are today. So when the opportunity was presented to support local teens interested in careers in the culinary arts, we knew we had to be involved!
C-CAP is a workforce development nonprofit that provides approximately 1600 Philadelphia high school students across 20 schools with culinary, job, and life skills training and support. C-CAP empowers these incredible teens through their Job Training program. The program connects students to internships, apprenticeships, and jobs throughout food and hospitality industries. C-CAP’s commitment to supporting pathways to higher education is incredibly strong and has already awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships! The mentorship network, another unique C-CAP program, pairs students with industry professionals to guide them and prepare them for both life and future jobs.
Soom’s CEO, Amy ZItelman, was drawn towards C-CAP’s mission and joined the Advisory Council in May of 2020. She is passionate about supporting local students andusing her connections in the Philadelphia culinary and CPG networks to recruit more C-CAP supporters. From resume reviews and mock interviews to tahini tastings in class, Amy loves sharing Soom’s culinary and entrepreneurial journey with the students.Everyone at Soom is inspired by the organization and the students as they work tirelessly to improve the lives of Philadelphia youth!
